Helen Shermanwas born in 1982 in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. A recent graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Helen holds both a post-graduate Diploma in opera (2006) and a BMus in performance. Following success in the 2007 Australian Singing Competition she was awarded a scholarship to continue her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music with Peter Wilson, currently studying for the new International Artist Diploma, supported by the Zochonis Charitable Trust. She is also very grateful for her continued work with Australian teacher Dr. Rowena Cowley.
Helen has featured on numerous occasions as a soloist on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation‘s ABC Classic FM as part of the Young Australia Programme. In opera her roles include Prince Orlofsky (Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, RNCM), Rosina (The Barber of Seville), The Grand Duchess of Monte-Blanco (Lennox Berkeley‘s A Dinner Engagement), Lisetta (Haydn’s Il mondo della luna), The Angel (Mendelssohn's Elijah), Third Lady (The Magic Flute), and Cousin Hebe (HMS Pinafore).
Plans during the 2009/10 season include her Purcell Room and Bridgewater Hall debuts and the roles of Hélène (Offenbach‘s La Belle Hélène), Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito) and Cyrus (Handel’s Belshazzar), the latter in a co-production with Manchester Camerata and the RNCM. In summer 2010 she joins Grange Park Opera performing the role of Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) and covering the role of Clairon (Capriccio) for Grange Park Opera.
Helen is the recipient of many awards and scholarships from groups including the Australian Music Foundation, Leverhulme Trust, the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, the Helpmann Family Trust, Ars Musica Australis, The Opera and Arts Support Group Sydney, the Dame Joan Sutherland Society and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Malcolm Forbes-Peckham has considerable experience as a soloist, duo partner, accompanist, and chamber musician. Most recently he completed the John Wilson Junior Fellowship in accompaniment at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) Manchester, under the tutelage of Helen Krizos. He is most grateful for the support of the Oglesby Charitable Trust, The South Square Trust and The Musicians Benevolent Fund.
During his time at the RNCM, Malcolm was the recipient of most of the college’s awards for accompaniment, as well as prestigious awards as a soloist, including first prize in the RNCM Piano Recital Prize and subsequently the Gordon Greene Memorial Award for piano. As a chamber musician, Malcolm was awarded the RNCM Hirsch, Weil and Granada prizes.
Malcolm has performed at many major venues throughout the United Kingdom including Wigmore Hall, St Martin-In-The-Fields, St John’s Smith Square, St James’s Piccadilly and the Purcell Room. Particular highlights in his concert career have included performances at the Wales Millennium Centre (Cardiff), the Beau Rivage Palace Hotel, (Switzerland) and more recently a memorable charity recital at Lambeth Palace with The Tanera Piano Trio, an ensemble formed at the RNCM in 2004. Most recently he has performed solo recitals for the Malvern St James concert series, Bude Music Society and the Sheffield Music Club.
Malcolm's concerto appearances have included, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the North Cheshire Concert Band and The Emerald Ensemble, Dohnanyi’s Variations on a Nursery Theme with The Manchester Beethoven Orchestra, and performances of Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Ravel's Concerto in Gmajor with orchestras in his home county of Gloucestershire. Malcolm was recently appointed staff pianist at Malvern St James School in Worcestershire.
