The 2007 Festival
‘An exciting Festival of very high quality with some truly outstanding performances’, according to one discerning show business stalwart who has attended many. That view of the sixteenth Tenby Arts Festival was certainly shared by many of the thousands of people who enjoyed eight days of unparelled entertainment. The quantity, quality and diversity of the programme attracted appreciative audiences for some thirty events whose feedback confirmed that ‘the Tenby Arts Festival continues to shine like a beacon of excellence’.
The final flourish over the last two days admirably demonstrated this year’s success. The star attraction for many was the appearance of Evelyn Glennie, the sensational percussionist on her first visit to the area, who entranced a very large turnout at the Follies Theatre last Friday. In addition to performing exquisitely, she engaged with the audience beautifully while conducting a master class in the art and science of percussion. Her solo on the snare drum as the beat gradually increased in intensity and volume was both hypnotic and mesmeric. Students from the area, accompanied by Melanie Walker, Pembrokeshire County Percussion Organiser, played their part too, with one of them appearing on stage and others contributing to a question and answer session with the performer. Oh, what a night it was, it really was!
